History

Located in the state of Vermont, the town of Manchester lies at the base of Mount Equinox Mountain and is situated on Route 7A south. Manchester Center is truly a paradise for shoppers, whereas Manchester Village offers a quaint atmosphere. The historic structures of this town have plenty of traditions and used to be the home town of Abraham Lincoln’s relative. Visiting this beautiful, small town means that you have to check out and enjoy the summer estate of Robert Todd Lincoln, as well as the beauty that contains you while you are here.

Hundreds of families in Vermont suffered because of the civil war, and a lot of young men who served the United States did not return to this state. Factory Point was the initial name of Manchester, and the people gathered and ended up changing the name to Manchester Center to chase away the idea that Factory Point was a smoky and deafening industrial center. Manchester Depot, the town’s new section, emerged throughout the hectic railroad station. Manchester was born, and everything is history.

Area and Climate

Manchester is one of Bennington County’s two shire towns. Manchester Center and an incorporated village, the Manchester Village, are settlement centers situated in the town. Manchester became a tourist spot, particularly for people who live in Connecticut and New York and provides visitors with numerous factory outlet stores of countrywide chain retailers, including Ralph Lauren and Brooks Brothers and many businesses that are owned locally, including Northshire Bookstore, which is a premier independent bookstore in the United States. To the west of the town is the Taconic Range and to the east is the Green Mountains.

The summer season is moderate and short, having a usual temperature of 61 degrees. The cold months are cold and long, but are mild, with a temperature of 28 degrees. Autumn and spring seasons have warm days and cold nights. The high average temperatures each month vary from 30 degrees in winter to 80 degrees in summer. The low average temperatures each month vary between 10 degrees and 56 degrees. Furthermore, the monthly rainfall is 3 inches, having a yearly average of 52 inches. A 15-inch blanket of snow is typical with an increase in higher elevations of 60-70 inches. Variations in topography make for a range of climate conditions in this town.

Real Estate and Cost of Living

The approximate value of a condo or house in 2000 was $290,700 and $629,964 in 2011.

2011’s mean cost for all home units was $839,573, $678,477 for townhomes and attached units, $680,540 for mobile homes, $867,894 for detached homes, and $866,141 for 2-unit structures.

The town’s cost of living in March 2012 was 99.4, which is close to the US average of 100.

Lifestyle and Things to Do

Manchester is roughly 30 minutes from Stratton Mountain Resort, which is among the major winter destinations in New England. It is an ideal place for people who want an easy access to snowboarding and skiing and also to stay and enjoy the gorgeousness of an exemplary New England Town. This small village is not only for snow enthusiasts; as a matter of fact, the place has an abundance of activities regardless of the season. During your stay, why not baby yourself at Equinox Resort & Spa? This perfect choice, together with all the things the town has to offer, guarantees that everyone who happens to be in this town experience absolute satisfaction and pleasure.
