History

McKinney started back in March 24, 1849 when William Davis donated 120 acres of land for the building of this town site. For 125 years, this town has been the county’s primary commercial and agribusiness center. It featured businesses like crop farming, textile mills, ice company, dairy and so on.

The name McKinney came from Collin McKinney, a congressman from the Red River district of the Republic of Texas. He was also the sponsor of the Texas Declaration of Independence.

A few years after, this town rapidly grew, increasing in both income and population. From 2000 to 2003, McKinney was recognized as the nation’s fastest-growing city. And it didn’t stop there. In 2010, it was ranked as the 19th most populous city in Texas.

Area and Lifestyle

Though it’s not as popular as Plano or Frisco, McKinney has its own charm that attracts dozens of locals to it. Aside from the old-school downtown, a few historical sites and museums; and some recreation areas, McKinney offer excellent food and entertainment districts.

Treat yourself to some great food and traditional Irish music at The Celt Irish Pub. Here, they serve a variety of booze and hearty pub grubs.

Visit Square Burger and enjoy their grass-fed beef burgers, craft beers plus other locally-sourced American dishes. For some pizza and beer, you can go to Cadillac Pizza Pub. It’s a rustic, brick-walled pub that serves your favorite oven-cooked pizza plus huge beers and cocktail menus. You can also enjoy listening to some live music here every night.

Those looking for some healthy, organic meal can go to Harvest, where they can order seasonal American cuisine using fresh-sourced, farm-to-table ingredients.

For a more upscale dining, there’s Zin Zen Wine Bistro. They serve new American bites and brunch. You’ll love the view from their patio and at night, they have live music here, too.
