History
Lakewood was named after its distinct location. In the earlier times, this city started as land owned by the Ottawa, Chippewa, Indian tribes. In July 4, 1805, the treaty that provided the lease for these lands was finally settled and the property was opened to immigrants.
This city was first known as Township 7, Range 14 of the Connecticut Western Reserve in 1805. Years passed and the town grew rapidly, so in 1889, it finally separated from the township and was now declared as a city with a total population of 400 residents. By 1930, the total population of this city rose up to 70,509.
Today, Lakewood city is a part of the Greater Cleveland Metropolitan Area which borders the city of Cleveland. It’s now ranked as the third’s largest city in Cuyahoga County.
