1835-1850 – Davidson College was established by Presbyterian Church. In 1835, the Presbytery of Concord’s committee began planning. The doors of the college were opened in March 1837. Initially, the college leased the land to businesses.

1837-1879 – The town government and even the patrols were managed by the college. In 1879, the town was incorporated as Davidson College. The name of the town was changed to Davidson in 1891.

1865-1900 – African Americans set up a business early in the history of the town; however, majority of them worked as servants for white families or for the college.

1900-1917 – At the start of the 1900s, the college was still important to the town, not only as the biggest business, but because it also gave the town its first electricity and water systems. In 1911, the first automobiles came to Davidson, followed by bus services in 1917, but as with railroad, Davidson remained in an isolated place. It was more convenient to reach Statesville or Charlotte, which was essential, as the town no longer had a clinic or hospital. Ill-timed train schedules and poor roads kept businesses in the area afloat by keeping clients in town.

1968 – Primarily, Davidson still continued to be secluded from changes at the lake; however, the construction of the Interstate 77 thoroughfare drew the neighborhoods closer together.
