History
Excelsior is a gorgeous community founded by George Bertram and the Excelsior Pioneer Association in 1853. This was the first town built right on Lake Minnetonka, an inland lake that lies within Hennepin County and Carver County.
This city is well-known for its Victorian architecture and masonry-clad commercial district that has now become a charming downtown with lots of shops, restaurants and other entertainment places.
From 1925 to 1973, this place has been the home to the famous Excelsior Amusement Park. But unfortunately, this park has now changed into a condominium complex with two restaurants.
Present day, Excelsior is now a suburb located 12 miles west of South Minneapolis.

Area and Lifestyle
One good thing about living in Excelsior is having everything you could want within reach. This includes stunning Victorian-inspired houses and establishments along a lengthy, tree-lined trail network. In the city center, you’ll find a couple of fancy restaurants which serve great food and drinks like the Coalition Restaurant or Maynard’s.
For some luscious desserts and ice cream, there’s Licks Unlimited. The Excelsior Brewing Company is the city’s local micro-brewery where you can buy craft beers. Shoppers would enjoy getting free samples from upscale supermarkets located around town.
There’s also the Excelsior Commons or “the Commons” which is a 13-acre park that features an open recreation and picnic areas, playgrounds, sports courts and docking ports for boat owners. You can even ride their Streetcar Boat if you want to go to Wayzart from Excelsior.
You can watch mini concerts at the town common or spend some quiet time at the new library.
