History
Ferndale was first inhabited by the Native Americans. It was not only until the 1800s where farmers slowly came in and cultivated the land. A few years after, the automobile was invented and thanks to this, along with the development of the automotive assembly line, the overall population of Ferndale skyrocketed.
Ferndale started as a village in 1918. After 9 years, in March 7, 1927, this village finally became a city. From the 1940s to 1960s, this town boomed into a suburban community complete with schools, a downtown, parks, churches and so on.
Ferndale’s downtown is made up of two major boulevards’ the Nine Mile Road and the Woodward Avenue. There, you can find dozens of stores and other local shops.
Present day, this same old downtown is filled with new stores, restaurants and other entertainment areas.
