History
Zionsville is located in the beautiful Eagle Creek valley in the Southeastern area of Boone County. Back in 1800s, this place was inhabited by a small fraction of the Miami Indians. It was in 1822 when the first white trailblazers settled in this wasteland without roads.
One of the pioneers who lived here was William Zion and his family. He is from Lebanon, Indiana. He is also a businessman and the director of the Lafayette & Indianapolis Railroad. Zionsville was built back in 1852 when the railroad extended up to this point. And yes, that is where the name originated.
The land where Zionsville was built was previously owned by Elijah and Mary “Polly” Cross. The couple along with William Zion were the people who planned and built this town from the ground up.
At present times, Zionsville promotes itself as a tourist attraction with its long, paved brickwork and street lamps that look so amazing at night! Making it a unique travel spot for shoppers and visitors.
