History
Golden was once the capital of the Colorado Territory up until Denver took its place in 1876.
This town was established on June 16, 1859 along the Clear Creek west of Denver, Colorado. It was founded during the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush. And during that period, dozens of people flocked here in hopes of finding gold. You might think that it’s the origin of this town’s name but it’s not. The name actually came from Thomas L. Golden, one of the earliest prospectors in present day’s Jefferson County, Colorado.
Since then, this town has become the region’s economic and political center. During the 20th century, the population of this small town was only around 2,500. However, after the World War II, Golden boomed rapidly in terms of size, economy and population.
Today, Golden has become a small-town that caters to a variety of people and businesses of both national and international influence.
